Getting started
The admin
The admin lives at /admin/ unless [server].admin_path (or GANSEY_ADMIN_PATH) moves it, for example to /studio. It is a single-page app compiled into the binary, and every screen works on the live site through the same API. Each screen has its own address, such as /admin/content or /admin/builder/<page id>, so you can bookmark and share them.
The navigation is in two groups, Site and System. Screens a user's role does not allow are left out: Content types needs manage_site, and Users & roles needs manage_users. Other screens open for everyone but refuse changes the user's role does not allow. Modules can add their own screens, which appear under From modules at the bottom of the navigation.
The top bar shows the site's hostname and whether the database is connected, a View site link, a colour mode switch (light, auto, dark), the environment and noindex pills, the core version, and your initials, which open Your account.
Dashboard
The first screen after signing in. It counts published pages and drafts, lists the widget kinds available in the builder, and shows the core version and the environment. Core health lists the binary and platform, uptime, database and migrations, users and active sessions, pages, media, backups, updates, indexing, logs, email and the animation runtime. Recent activity shows the latest entries from the activity log. Modules can add dashboard cards here.
Content
Pages and entries. The Pages tab lists every page with its path and status. New page creates one, optionally from a starter layout, and opens it in the builder. Settings on a page sets its title, path, parent, description, navigation order and whether it shows in the navigation. It also makes a page the home page, schedules publication, gives you a preview link, and archives or deletes the page. Each content type has its own tab, where you add and edit entries: their fields, terms, featured image, and whether an entry has its own page.
Content types
Your own kinds of structured content, such as projects, team members or case studies, each with its own fields. Types defines them: name, path, fields (short text, long text, rich text, web address and more), whether there is a listing page, and whether entries may have their own pages. Taxonomies defines groupings such as categories or tags, flat or nested, and their terms.
Page builder
The visual editor for pages, site parts and entry pages. You edit the real rendered page in a live preview: add sections from preset column layouts, drop widgets into columns, and set each element's content, layout, colours, spacing and entrance animation. Preview at desktop, tablet and mobile widths. Every save is a revision; History lists them so you can load or publish an older one. Autosave saves a draft 30 seconds after your last change. Widgets with custom HTML or scripts need manage_site. Any section can be saved as a block and placed on other pages, either synced (edit it once, every page updates) or as a copy to change per page.
Blocks
The library of saved blocks: search, filter by category and kind, and see each one as a live thumbnail or in a compact list. Open one to rename it, file it under a category, see where it is placed, edit it, archive it or delete it.
Theme
The public site's look. Site parts are the header, footer and page templates (not found, search, blog, and the listing, single and term templates for each content type), each built in the page builder. Tokens are the global design settings: kits, colours, typography, buttons, layout, header and footer, and custom CSS, with a live preview. Kits can also be exported and imported as packages.
Media
The media library. Drag files onto the screen to upload them; every image gets sizes for small and large screens. Select an item to set its alt text, caption and focal point, see where it is used, or delete it. Optimise makes smaller next-generation copies that browsers load instead.
Users & roles
Who can sign in and what each role allows. See Users and sign-in.
Modules
Every installed module, filtered as Installed, Yours, Switched off, With errors or Registry. Select a module to switch it off or on, open its screens and settings, reload it, or remove it with or without its data. Its tabs show the manifest, source, permissions, what it registered, its log and its queue. Create module makes a working starter, and Registry installs from the hub when one is configured. See Modules.
Updates
Updates & licence shows the running version and the latest on the site's channel, with its changelog. Check now asks the hub, and the install button takes a backup before it installs. Here you also choose the release channel, turn automatic patch releases on or off, and enter the licence key. Changing anything needs manage_site.
Theme & settings
Settings for the admin and the site. Admin layout chooses sidebar, icon rail or top navigation and the colour mode. Admin theme picks the admin's sail colours (Harbour, Lifeboat, Kelp, Coral, Lighthouse, Driftwood, Storm). Both, and the Motion settings for the admin's own animations, are stored in your browser only. Backups lists backups, takes one now, and restores or deletes them (needs manage_site). Site holds the site's name, hostname and locale, the site icon, and the indexing switch. The site icon is an image from the media library that browsers show in tabs, bookmarks and home screens; a square PNG of at least 180×180 or an SVG works best. While it is the icon, the library will not delete it.
Your account
Open it from your initials in the top bar. Change your password, set up or turn off two-factor sign-in, and sign out.
